The New York International Bridal week has come and gone and so now comes the fun part of ushering in 2015’s hottest bridal gown trends.  I reached out to seven of Toronto’s finest bridal boutiques for their thoughts on where wedding dress trends are headed for 2015 – I know you’re gonna love this!

Less is more!

“Brides are looking for lighter looking and feeling gowns. They can be full but they must be light! The brides are also asking for some sort of shoulder detail.  Either with a strap, cap sleeve or with arm coverage.  They want light flowy fabrics with movement.(Dina Alonzi – Dina Alonzi Bridal )

“Working directly with brides, I am hearing a recurring request for a dress that is easy to wear and to move around in. They still want to look like they are wearing a wedding dress and not something they’d wear to a fancy party. I think these brides will start having more choice finding a gown that is less cumbersome and more comfortable with an ethereal elegance.”  (Angela Kerry – Gown and Glory Consignment Boutique)

“Another great way to show off your shoes and legs is to go short. Plus,if you’re planning to dance the night away on your special day, this trend might just be the one for you. Naeem Khan created some beautiful gowns with shorter hemlines — feathers and fringes included.”  (Jessica Mulroney – Kleinfeld Hudson's Bay)

 Bringing sexy back!

“One of the most dramatic trends for Fall 2015 is cutouts. Peekaboo side panels, whether open or covered with lace, are a great look for the confident bride.” (Jessica Mulroney – Kleinfeld Hudson's Bay)

“Sexy, body skimminng gowns that are different in the detail such as the lace, beading or both, are becoming more popular. I must also add, very low backs with or without back interest are favoured as well” (Dina Alonzi – Dina Alonzi Bridal)

“Lastly open backs / detailed backs, our brides still want to bring sexy back to their gowns without being trashy!” (Cindy Andrews – She's So Beautiful)

Backless is back. Gone is the corset top, brides are replacing cleavage with a completely open back gown to add that sexy touch to their elegant wedding look. Add a sparkling vintage halo over those long flowing locks and Voila! Perfect for the girl who wants to combine classic bridal elegance and boho chic style. (Danielle – Pearl Bridal House)

Bold & the Beautiful!

Colour! This is a bold choice but many brides are looking for something a little different- and looking even beyond the blush colour. Grey’s, subtle blues, mint greens and even floral patterns!. If a bride isn’t willing to go all the way with colour, then dresses with a coloured applique or detail is going to be a popular choice. Again, Elizabeth Fillmore’s Elsa gown is a great example of this- rich ivory with silver applique lace detail.(The Girls at Mrs. Bridal Boutique)

“And then there’s the statement pieces; art deco inspired, laser cut and two-toned patterns! The traditional ballroom venue is not the norm anymore. Brides that are getting married at more intimate venues like a museum, art gallery, restaurant, or city rooftop might choose to wear something that has a more artsy appeal to it. Remove the train or even shorten the length, and I could see these worn again.” (Angela Kerry – Gown and Glory Consignment Boutique)

“If you’re more of a reserved bride, you might want to think twice about sporting a front slit. But if you’re daring and fashion forward, this trend could be oh so right! Perfect for a destination or outdoor summer wedding, slits are a great way to show off your legs and your shoes at the same time.”

(Jessica Mulroney – Kleinfeld Hudson's Bay)

 Something a little more Conservative

“For example, I think illusion necklines will continue to be popular but we’ll see more of that covered neckline extending into a higher collar. This high collar can be quite regal with covered arms and low cut v-neck, or quite sexy with exposed shoulders and back” (Angela – Gown and Glory Consignment Boutique)

Long sleeves- this trend has been on the rise since Princess Kate but the styles are evolving to more sexy silhouettes to offset the full-coverage of sleeves. Lace sleeves are popular but now we’re seeing a mix of both lace silk crepe, and chiffon. Capes and caplets- a gorgeous alternative to a shawl or bolero to cover up. (The Girls at Mrs. Bridal Boutique)

Texture and Tulle

“Texturize over accessorize. The new “classic ball gown”. Brides are opting for a simple top with an over-the-top, wild and textured tulle skirt to modernize the ever-so-timeless tulle ball gown. No accessories needed (or very little), time to let go of the large beaded belts and go sans-bling to let those stunning skirts speak for themselves.” (Danielle at Pearl Bridal House)

Tulle is also back in a big way- but not in the “fairytale princess” way we typically think about. For example, we are starting to see tulle skirts layered over lace gowns or tiered tulle skirts over a sexy corset bodice. The first photo is a Julie Vino gown that encorporates a lot of the trends we are seeing- high neck, gold hue, chiffon overlay… perfection!” (The Girls at Mrs. Bridal Boutique)

“From year to year, girls can’t get enough of lace. Like animal print and leather in our street wear – it’s always on trend. And for those brides that want a more light and airy option to a ballgown, we’re also going to see the continuation of lots and lots of tulle with more unique and edgy cuts. “

(Angela Kerry – Gown and Glory Consignment Boutique)

“Lace, lace and more lace… All silhouettes ( princess, sheath, fit and flare etc.)

(Cindy Andrews – She's So Beautiful)

“Lace is still trending, we are seeing lace sleeves in many different lengths on the arm from cap sleeves, all the way to the wrist.”

(Sam Pollari – Amanda-Lina's Sposa Bridal Boutique)
