When the wedding ends, you will feel many emotions \u2013 happiness; excitement and relief, and also a sense of \u2018okay, so now what?\u2019. Great question! There are several things that you should do fairly quickly after you get married, so that you don\u2019t forget and so that you can start your lives together on the right \u2013 and legal \u2013 foot.<\/p>

The Legal Stuff<\/h2>

1. Change your name<\/strong>: If you have decided to change your name to match your spouses \u2013 we suggest doing this as soon as possible since the process can take a few weeks to complete.<\/p>

2. Send away for your marriage certificate<\/strong>: This isn\u2019t necessary, but it is always a good idea to have your official marriage certificate on hand. You can do this through your provincial government website.<\/p>

The Necessary Stuff<\/h2>

1. Thank-you cards<\/strong>: This task is tedious but non-negotiable. Your older relatives come from a time where a thank you card was sent for everything. While technically, you have a year to send a thank you, we suggest getting them done and out of the way before you forget.<\/p>

2. Clean Up<\/strong>: Make sure you don\u2019t leave your wedding stuff sitting around too long or it will never get put away\u2013 put away your gifts, sell or discard of your decorations and freeze the top of your wedding cake.<\/p>
