Everybody loves a good introduction. Be it an introduction to intriguing new friends at a party, your new girlfriends\u2019 discerning parents, or to your new managing supervisor at work, there is a certain magic to that first contact where you have the chance to leave the ultimate impression.<\/p>\n

Perhaps this is why over the years the wedding introduction has taken on a life of its own.\u00a0 It is a couple’s\u00a0first opportunity to really set the tone at their reception and bask in all of the glory that is deservedly theirs. There are of course countless different ways to be introduced. So how do you go about choosing the introduction that is right for you!?\u00a0 Lucky for you this article will walk you (pun intended)<\/em> through some of this year\u2019s most popular wedding introductions (in all of their cheesy, self-aggrandizing glory.)<\/em><\/p>\n

The Happy Clapper<\/h2>\n

Let\u2019s start the list with one of my favourites: the Happy Clapper<\/em> is a true classic.\u00a0 This introduction can be done with any popular song that moves a crowd to begin clapping to the beat.\u00a0 While clapping seems like an easy enough thing to achieve, not every clap is created equally.\u00a0 It has a lot to do with tempo<\/em>\u00a0as well as the feeling<\/em>\u00a0of the song.\u00a0 My favourite is Barry White\u2019s My First, My Last, My Everything<\/em>, an absolutely ideal clapping speed and a classy romantic song to boot.<\/p>\n

Another great \u201cclappy\u201d hit is Michael Jackson\u2019s Don\u2019t Stop Til You Get Enough;\u00a0<\/em>popular enough that everyone knows it, a similar classy feel and a fantastic clapping speed: Not too fast, not too slow.<\/p>\n

And don\u2019t be fooled.\u00a0 A song like Pharrel\u2019s Happy<\/em>, while it does well on a dance floor and includes actual hand claps in the song, fares poorly at drawing claps for introductions.\u00a0 Not ideal clapping speed.\u00a0 Look for songs as slow as Stayin Alive, <\/em>\u00a0but no faster than Super Freak; <\/em>Remember, it\u2019s still early!<\/p>\n

The Rockstar Strut<\/h2>\n

Every rock and roll fans\u2019 dream come true.\u00a0 This is for a wedding party that wants to Rock and Roll all night<\/em> and make love in an elevator<\/em>.\u00a0 Props and fancy lighting are encouraged for this entrance as the idea is to emulate the rock star of your choice.\u00a0 Great intro songs for this include The Darkness\u2019 I Believe In a Thing Called Love, <\/em>Van Halens\u2019 Hot For Teacher,<\/em> Red Hot Chili Peppers\u2019 All Around The World <\/em>and Aerosmiths\u2019 Walk This Way.<\/em> The trick for this intro is to be as over-the-top as the song that you are walking into. \u00a0For added effect, feel free to kick over a couple of chairs (being very careful that it isn\u2019t your grandma\u2019s chair!).<\/em><\/p>\n

The Oscars<\/h2>\n

The yin of the The Rockstar Strut’s<\/em>\u00a0yang:\u00a0this more understated approach is for the couple looking for\u00a0a nice, crisp announcer voice, a spotlight and a\u00a0classy\u00a0song selection as the couple\u00a0gracefully\u00a0strolls\u00a0from off the red carpet, through the entrance way\u00a0doors, throwing in a few hand waves for good measure, and politely\u00a0taking\u00a0their\u00a0seats.\u00a0 NOTE: This introduction is best used when the thought of The Rockstar Strut\u00a0<\/em>sends shivers down your spine.<\/p>\n

The WWE Main Event<\/h2>\n

While this introduction is certainly not for everybody, it remains one of the most amazing I have ever witnessed. \u00a0I was lucky enough to be a part of one working with wedding planner extraordinaire Zerlene Mekdeci of Impresario Events at the Shangrai-La hotel this past summer. \u00a0The\u00a0bride and groom both\u00a0happened to be huge\u00a0fans of the WWE.\u00a0 Not only did each member of the wedding party walk in to their own favourite wrestlers\u2019 theme music, but they had the wrestlers\u2019 video montages playing on the screen behind them while they acted out incredibly accurate stage moves in the middle of the dance floor.<\/p>\n

This was made even better as the bride and groom walked into the room with sunglasses and wrestling belts draped across them, the wedding party coming together in some spectacular choreography to create a sizzling centre-stage effect.\u00a0Again, this introduction is similar to The Rockstar Strut<\/em>, but with an extra element of cheese thrown in to create an over-the-top experience that will have your old high school friends high fiving like it was the olden days.\u00a0 Take note: Your grandma will not appreciate this entrance.<\/p>\n

The Throwback<\/h2>\n

Old School dance music is always a welcome addition to a wedding party introduction. \u00a0Quite\u00a0often, your guests will\u00a0have grown up with you through the decades, so it makes sense to play some old tunes that represent the good times that you shared\u00a0together.<\/p>\n

It doesn’t have to be 2000\u2019s hip hop either (although that is widely encouraged)<\/em>, \u201cOld School\u201d music for you might be 80\u2019s new wave, 70\u2019s disco or even cheesy shiny 90\u2019s dance hits like Dr Jones<\/em> by Aqua.\u00a0Whatever it is, make sure to lay it on thick, doing the running man, making it rain with monopoly money or simply doing the \u201cCarlton\u201d dance to Tom Jones\u2019 It\u2019s Not Unusual<\/em> (\u00e0\u00a0la<\/em> Fresh Prince of Bel Air<\/em>.)<\/p>\n

The Polite Introduction\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

If all of the previous ideas have you shaking your head in disbelief, then the Polite<\/em> Introduction<\/em> just might be for you. \u00a0The cousin\u00a0of\u00a0The Oscars,\u00a0<\/em>this approach\u00a0is quite literally a brief, polite introduction:\u00a0 the couple\u00a0sneaks\u00a0into their\u00a0seats,\u00a0enjoys a nice little round of applause as the MC introduces them\u00a0during the toast. \u00a0If you’re the type of person who feels anxious by the very thought of receiving\u00a0wedding day\u00a0attention,\u00a0this method offers you the lowest profile so you can focus on enjoying your day.<\/p>\n

In Conclusion<\/h2>\n

Your wedding introduction is just that; yours. \u00a0Be sure to choose an introduction style that reflects your personalities and the tone that you would like to set. \u00a0Chat it over with each other, bounce your wacky ideas off friends or pull a mega surprise on all your guests. \u00a0Whatever\u00a0you choose,\u00a0have fun with it and enjoy it – it’ll all be over too quickly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
