If your wedding has been postponed due to COVID-19, you are likely going through your vendor contracts with a fine toothed comb. But there is something that you may not have thought of \u2013 the dress!<\/p>\n

If you have already picked up your dress, and your wedding was postponed, it is vital that you ensure proper storage to protect the integrity of the garment and make sure you look your best when you can finally have the wedding of your dreams!<\/p>\n

Things to keep in mind…<\/h2>\n

  1. Never handle your dress with dirty hands! If you can, don a pair of white cotton gloves anytime you need to handle your dress as this will protect the delicate fabric from the oils on your skin.<\/li>\n
  2. Avoid trying your dress on all the time, as this is another opportunity for the oils on your skin to discolour the dress.<\/li>\n
  3. NEVER \u2013 we mean it \u2013 store your dress in a plastic garment bag. Plastic traps moisture and moisture is a wedding dress\u2019 worst enemy!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If you only have to wait a couple of months…<\/h2>\n

    If your wedding was only postponed a couple months, you may not have to store your wedding dress professionally. Depending on the fabric and details of the dress, you could be okay simply hanging your dress in a fabric garment bag until the big day. Here are some things to keep in mind when storing your dress in the short term:<\/p>\n

    1. If possible, lay your dress flat, surrounded by a clean, white cotton sheet.<\/li>\n
    2. If you need to hang your dress, ensure that you are using the proper hanging straps NOT the dress straps as this can warp the fabric<\/li>\n
    3. Always use a fabric garment bag (we were serious about the no plastic thing!)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      If you have to wait longer…<\/h2>\n

      Unfortunately, you may be looking to store your wedding dress a little longer than a couple months. If this is the case, it is a good idea to explore some professional options, to ensure that your dress is protected before the big day. We suggest chatting with your bridal boutique to see what options they have available or if they recommend any professional storing services. That being said, you can do it yourself, but keep these tips in mind:<\/p>\n

      1. If possible, always keep your dress flat, in a cool, dark, dry room.<\/li>\n
      2. Always protect your dress with white cotton: Surround your dress with a white cotton sheet, and support any fold with cotton towels to keep the dress from creasing.<\/li>\n
      3. Don\u2019t forget about your accessories. Protect your veil the same way as your dress.<\/li>\n
      4. Inspect your dress weekly. Look for pulls or discolouration in the fabric and details and get in touch with your bridal boutique immediately if you notice anything is off.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
