We came for Sunday brunch buffet. Been here a couple of times before. The decor and ambience is grand yet very dated. The service was slow but they still seem to try hard to make your experience better. The buffet itself is quite large. The selection is quite impressive however the hot dishes were few. The overall quality and taste was quite anti-climatic. Some dishes being rather bland or over cooked. Others were very satisfying. Definitely not the best buffet nor the worst. For the steep price I really expected more.

We recently had our wedding at the Old Mill. The grounds were beautiful and we had a great ceremony.

But, we have had such MAJOR issues with the Old Mill since our wedding. The Captain that was working that night made a management decision to cut off shots at the bar for ALL guests (and not just to certain guests like other venues do). He did not consult nor advise us (bride and groom) of his decision. At the time he made this decision it was around 9pm and the entree course had yet to be served. We did not find out until our guests had come up to us asking why the shots were cut off which was embarrassing to say the least!!! We brought this up to him immediately to no avail.

Because we were staying at the Inn we asked for our wedding cake to be stored in their fridge to be picked up the next morning. The next morning we went to the Catering Office to have to wait for 45mins because they did not know where the Captain had stored the cake (he had not told anyone where he put the cake). This is NOT what a newly wed couple wants to do the morning after getting married!!

We sent an e-mail to our coordinator informing her of all the issues that we had with our wedding especially with the bar (since we did pay for an OPEN BAR). Her response back to us was that as a licensed venue they have a legal liability to ensure guests safety and it would have been too difficult to serve shots to some guests while cutting off other guests who in their opinion were inebriated. The decision was made because the Captain thought that some of our guests were inebriated (which they weren't if he had only asked us).

We had a couple issues with her response:
1) as an experienced venue they should have had experienced and knowledgeable bartenders who are able to tell when someone has had too many drinks and guests who were not

2) if they did have experienced bartenders then management should NOT have made the decision to cut off shots for EVERYONE and if a non inebriated guest approached the bar they should have been served (a licensed establishment with licensed staff does not stop serving drinks altogether because some guests are deemed drunk, they stop serving to those individuals only)

3) management made a decision that adversely affected us because not only were we embarrassed we didn't feel like we received the service that we paid for (open bar means open bar!)

4) why were we not consulted about the management decision before it happened and even after he made the decision why were we not advised

They brought down the party before the party could even begin since it was only 9pm!!

They did not offer apologies or compensation in any way and defended their unreasonable stance on this issue.

But what's even more disappointing is their level of service for such a well known establishment.

I have yet to receive a response back to my second e-mail to them asking for further explanations and rational...

From some other reviews online this is not the first time this has happened to someone.

Had lunch (although it was more like brunch based on the food). Food was good but the service was absolutely fantastic! Absolutely world class. Finally took some nice pix outside in the garden. Overall a nice place to visit for a special occasion like anniversaries, bday etc...

The place is outdated. The food was average and the location feels old and dingy. I have visited beautiful historic buildings in Toronto that have made an effort to keep their facility curreny by way of accessibility, useful technology, fresh look, spruced up setting. Over the last 10 years of coming here for social and work events, nothing has really changed. The Chapel could use more light and life, even for a period based experience, it could use a facelift. If the food was better than what I had there would have been one more star.

It was a very good experience overall from the get go. Everyone I dealt with from starting to finish were professional, friendly and accommodating. The comments from the group was that the food and venue was excellent. All that was prearranged went very smoothly and so it reflected on the preparation and the organization provided by Old Mill. The level of service and collegiality of your staff and the extra mile service from the personnel from the hotel made a huge difference in us preparing the room as much as we could in the evening. It relieved us from stressing out early in the morning since the meeting had an early start.
Thank you for assisting me in making this event run so smoothly, I truly appreciated everyone's efforts.

The Old Mill is one of the loveliest places in Toronto for a wedding. The food and service are always outstanding and the gardens are spectacular for photography. For over 20 years I have enjoyed going to the Old Mill for Weddings.

Everything went very smoothly

There was a little panic around room availability, you guys were sold out, and I strangely had more people interested in staying the night than we usually do (note for me next time have a larger room block!) But we made it work, thanks to Audrey & Allison for all the juggling and re-arranging we had to do!

The flower shop provided great centrepieces and the dinner staff were lovely (dinner was fabulous! Thanks Chef!)

Barbara was so great with the planning and everyone's assistance on site was fast and courteous!
